In 1930 a humble tent in the dunes marked the beginning of Palm Beach Surf Club, followed shortly
by a member’s one room beach shack. Palm Beach Surf Club is now one of the most popular beachfront
clubs in Queensland boasting multiple industry awards. The long-standing partnership between Cru and
Palm Beach Surf Club provides support for the ongoing training of the wonderful volunteers that patrol the local beaches. In addition to valuable training support, the partnership allows the club to access critical supplies and ensure regular maintenance of vital lifesaving equipment. With multiple accolades to their name; including Best Surf Club on the Gold Coast for consecutive years, Palm Beach Surf Club were also the very first surf club in Australia to be certified as ocean friendly by the Surfrider Foundation.
Started in 1959, Gold Coast Basketball association is a progressive sporting group that enhances opportunities for all members of the community to participate in basketball in a family friendly environment. With over 2000 players aged from 5yrs to 80yrs, the state level team has gone from strength to strength. Cru’s partnership assists the club with the programs, including senior and junior competitions, wheelchair basketball and intellectually disabled programs. Cru has been a proud sponsor of the annual Eager Beaver Surf Comp for several years, up until the final and 10th comp in 2022. This special event coordinated by Palm Beach Boardriders was in honour of former member Nathan Jager a.k.a “Beaver” . The contest helped create awareness of mental illness within the surf community, raising money for LIVIN, and brought the young groms and local surfing community together for a fun filled day of waves. Kudos to Palm Beach Boardriders for keeping it strong for a decade long period and attracting the support and involvement of local identities such as Fanning, Fisho and Parko during its time.
